Gasmen.com.au was established in August 2007 as a partnership between Steve Bishop and Tom Perry. Both started their plumbing careers as apprentices with AGL Sydney and have a combined total of over 80 years of Gasfitting experience.

We can advise upon problems with any
natural gas or LPG installation.

We can assist you with pipe sizing, pipework design and gasfitting rule interpretation. We can ensure your gas installation, pipework and appliances meet with the relevant Australian Gasfitting codes.

Interpretation of Gasfitting Rules

As we were involved with the implementation and review of the Australian Standards for Gas Installations (AS 5601), Industrial and Commercial Gas-Fired Appliances (AS 3814) and Network Gasfitting Rules, we can offer you assistance in interpretation of these standards and rules.

Problem Solving

If you are having problems with appliances, processes or installations, we can investigate the issues and offer you a solution to the problem.

Incident Investigations

When things don't go right, our consultants can investigate the incident and find the root cause of the problem. They can then suggest procedures to prevent the incident from reoccurring.

The Gasmen

Steve Bishop

Steve was employed by AGL Sydney for over 35 years to 2002, and was involved in many aspects of the gas industry ranging from the old Town Gas System to the introduction of natural gas into the Sydney and New South Wales markets. His experience covers domestic, commercial and industrial service, installation and design, in addition to gas fitting inspection. He worked in Chile and Poland when AGL purchased gas companies there.

Tom Perry

Tom was employed by AGL Sydney for over 33 years and has been involved in two gas industry standards committees. He was chief inspector for AGL for his last five years of employment following the previous ten years as an inspector. He has experience in domestic, commercial and industrial installation and service work.

We can supply you with Certificate of Compliance books approved for use in NSW, posted direct to your address at a cost of $44.00 (incl. GST) per book.

GASMEN.COM.AU now have Approved (Fair Trading) Certificate of Compliance books available for sale. The old Certificate of Compliance book that you may be using (the A5 size) will not be accepted by Fair Trading NSW after 30th September 2013. The new books are A4 size and are numbered on each certificate.

Legislation in NSW under the "Gas Supply (Safety and Network Management) Regulation 2008" clause 34, requires the following:

26) Testing for defects and certificates of compliance

  1. Immediately after completing gasfitting work on a gas installation, the person responsible for the carrying out of the gasfitting work:
    1. must test the installation for defects, and
    2. must inspect all gas appliances connected to the installation.
  2. Within 5 business days after testing a gas installation following the completion of gasfitting work, the person responsible for the carrying out of the gasfitting work must issue a certificate of compliance with respect to that work:
    1. to the owner of the installation or a person having the control or management of the installation, and
    2. to the Director-General.
  3. The person responsible for the carrying out of the gasfitting work must, within 5 business days after completing the gasfitting work, send a copy of the certificate of compliance to the relevant network operator.
    1. A certificate of compliance:
      1. must be in the approved form, and
      2. must indicate the nature of the gasfitting work that has been carried out, and
      3. must state that the gasfitting work has been carried out in accordance with a relevant Standard referred to in clause 22, and
      4. must indicate whether or not the gas installation is in safe working order.
    2. A person who issues a certificate of compliance must keep a copy of the certificate for 5 years from the date on which it was issued.
